ACSCR: Number 197: Paralyzing Chain
Armstrong.
When you here this surname, which Person pops into your Mind? Most People would think about Neil Armstrong, the first Man on the Moon or Lance Armstrong, the Famous road racing cyclist. And not forget Louis Armstrong, one of the best Jazz-musicians of all time, who played world defining Pieces like “What a Wonderful World” or “When the saints go marching in”. There are many more Armstrongs that could come into your Mind, but one that you most likely not thought of, is a Character simply called Armstrong from the Yu-Gi-Oh 5Ds Anime.
This delightful Fella, who insists that he is the 4th famous Armstrong.
He was the Chief of “The Facility”, which was a Prison in New Domino City. He is a minor Antagonist, only starring in one Duel against Yusei, who used a Deck mushed together from random Cards of the Inmates. Even with this, he still defeated Armstrong, which does not shine a good Light on its Archetype “Iron Chains”. “Iron Chain” is a fairly Small Archetype revolving around Burn Damage and Milling your Opponent out, two Strategies that normally don’t work well together. I will go into more Detail in the Article about their other continuous Spell “Poison Chain”, but you do not even need to know anything about the Archetype to know that “Paralyzing Chain” is absolute Garbage.
The Only thing that is does is burn the Opponent for 300 Damage, each time Card(s) are milled from their Deck. Note that it says Card(s), so even if you mill more than one card at once, it still only does 300 Damage, which is not enough to matter in the slightest. If it did 300 Damage for every Card, it would be a different Story, but even then wouldn’t it be good, because Mill Decks don’t care about your Opponents Life Points, they already have a Win Condition. “Iron Chains” have some good Mill Options, but they would rather focus on this Gimmick, than ran a card, which provides nothing but a minuscule Burn. If you want to run a continuous Burn Card, run “Dark Snake Syndrome”, which gets stronger each turn or “Cauldron of the Old Man” which also gets stronger for each round, but can also be used right from the start.
A snake that binds you is way cooler than a Chain. And way more dangerous.
Who is this old man anyway? Why is he brewing this potion? I have questions.
These are actually good cards, that could see play in burn Decks and not absolute garbage like “Paralyzing Chain”, that hijacks another Wind Condition. The only thing this Chain paralyzes is your Chance of Winning.
