ACSCR: Number 195: The Resolute Meklord Army

Rounding out the bottom five of this List is another card from an 5Ds archetype, a trend that will not end here. What’s even more baffling is, that all 5D cards in the Worst Ten of this list are cards from Archetypes that were played by Villains of that series, in this case Aporia. And the card we are going to talk about, namely “The Resolute Meklord Army” has even more similarities to cards I already discussed. Like “Electromagnetic Shield” it provides underwhelming Battle Protection and conflicts with some Parts of its own Archetype and like “Temple of the Sun”, it was not even in the Anime. So, we are already not on a good start with this card and it will not get better from here on out.

Granel's Arm Movement makes me a little bit uncomfortable

“The Resolute Meklord Army” gives all your “Meklord Army” monsters in Attack Position Battle Protection, but negates their effects. On first evaluation this effect does not sound too bad, giving your monsters battle immunity by sacrificing their effects. Sure, Battle Protection isn’t worth much nowadays, but it is not the worst thing a card could do. But there are a lot of Problems with this effect. First, it only works on “Meklord Army” monsters, which are kind of bad, and not on the better “Meklord Emperor” monsters. But even if it did, you would not use it, because you use the "Emperors" because of their effects and not as a Wall of Protection, like "Meklord Emperor Wisel's" Spell Negation effect. A point can be made, that cards that negate your own effects are only good if they Special Summon a monster or work directly with your Strategy. None of this is prevalent here.

Why is his head so little?

Secondly, one of the monsters protected by this Effect, “Meklord Army of Skiel”, has a fairly good Floating Effect, that Special Summons a “Meklord Army” monster from the deck when it is destroyed, but only if it is destroyed by Battle.

“The Resolute Meklord Army” goes directly against this effect and makes “Skiel” virtually useless ,because you can’t use it’s effect and it is the best of the “Meklord Army” monsters effects by far. The “Meklord Army” monster have also Effects that boost their Attack when you have more “Meklords” on the Field, which “The Resolute Meklord Army” also shuts down. In the Worst Case the only thing you get out of this card, is more Battle Damage and a useless monster on Field.

And Yes, I know what the intent behind this card is. The Idea is to force your opponent do destroy one of your “Meklord Army” monsters with card effects to trigger the “Meklord Emperors” in your hand and allow them to Special Summon themselves. This would be in fact terrible, because you can’t summon them in Attack Position, while having this card on the field, since they won’t have their effects. So the plan already crashes there. But on top of that, this play is also awfully slow and situational, because it requires your Opponent to do something. And when you have this card and a “Meklord Army” monster on the field, it’s like an invitation to your opponent to please destroy your monster. And if your opponent is not Stupid or a two-year-old, and I think even two-year-olds will see trough this bullshit, he will get this from a thousand miles away and either destroy your Spell(after all, we live in a format with “Lightning Storm”, “Cosmic Cyclone” and “Twin Twister”) or get rid of the monster in some other way.
The worst enemy of every card on this list.

Or he will do absolutely nothing, because your monster is not a bit dangerous to your opponent and as I said, he can still do Battle Damage. So, he could just Attack your monster multiple times and kill you while it is still on your field. “Meklord” decks usually do not wait for the opponent to destroy their cards anyway, they have enough Options to do it themselves, especially with the new support from “Legendary Duellists: Rage of Ra”, that takes “Meklord” decks to a new Direction and pushes its power significantly. With this new support, to which I will say many more things further up this list, nobody even must think about playing “The Resolute Meklord Army”. And I hope Konami will stop printing bad Battle Protection Spells, because we have 2020 and no one needs this card anymore. Go with the times, Konami. And please, give "Volcanics" new Support.
