Yugicember Day 3: Cosmic Flare

For this December I will post eyeryday an article about a random Yu-Gi-Oh!-Card, which I randomly selected. These articles are not much planned ahead and are just posted without much research or proof-reading, because I don't have that sort of time. But I just felt like doing something like this for December, so here we are, I hope you like it.

The Card for the 3rd of December is Cosmic Flare.

Is "Stardust Dragon" vomitting here?

"Cosmic Flare" is a Quick-Play Spell, that was released 2017 in Duelist Saga. In this set many Legacy Cards, that reference the Anime were released, the biggest ones being "Vision HERO Vyon", "Gozuki", "Cosmic Blazar Dragon" and "Harpie's Father Storm". There were also some cards which reference Signature Attacks of specific Ace Monsters from the Anime, which is exactly what "Cosmic Flare" is.

This card allows you to target 1 "Stardust" Synchro Monster you control, and if that monster battles during that turn, you can shuffle the opponents monster it battles into the deck, at the start of the Damage Step. "At the Start" is the relevant part here. So every "Stardust" Synchro Monster you control basicaly becomes a better "El Shaddoll Construct", with non-targeting, non-destruction removal, but only for one battle. So its only good for removing one critical threat one the field, and so very situational and often times not really useful, because not very effective in many situations. But this is only till "Stardust Charge Warrior" appears on the scene.

The Knife Man

"Stardust Charge Warrior" is a Level 6, generic Synchro Monster, who can attack all Special Summoned monsters your opponent controls once each. Normaly, this does not matter much, because he has a not so high Attack at 2000. But with "Cosmic Flare", "Stardust Warrior" turns into an absolute removal-machine, who can remove almost every monster from the field, except monsters, that cannot be targeted for an attack, which are not that common. So this combo is really great, to break big boards your opponent set up, which only requires a Level 6 Synchro, a Quick-Play Spell and you getting to your Battle Phase, which is an okay investment for an really good Board-Wipe. So in Combination with "Stardust Charge Warrior", is "Cosmic Flare" a card, that is almost every time really devastating, because it even bypasses Graveyard effects. So I really advise you to play "Cosmic Flare" and "Stardust Charge Warrior" in conjunction, because it is really funny and cool.

"Cosmic Flare" has also a second Abilty, which is not that impactful. You can banish it from your Graveyard, instead of Tributing 1 "Stardust" monster to activate it's effect. Now this is obiously meant to use the negation effect of "Stardust Dragon" twice per turn, which is sadly not really relevant. The other "Stardust" monsters also don't really have that good effects that warrant sruning this card to use it one more time. If you could use it on "Cosmic Blazar Dragon", it would be a different thing, but you can't, so it is really irrelevant.

So, i think it is a bit weird, that the best card to use the spell, that is meant to be "Stardust Dragon's" Signature Attack, is not one of the dragons, but a low Level Synchro , which is normaly used for Synchro Climbing. Very strange. But it makes "Stardust Charge Warrior" much better and an option for your final monster and not a step to your bigger cards, like it is now. So "Cosmic Flare" does not what it is really intend to do, but a very interesting thing for another card. I kind of like this. And this thing makes so much fun, that I don't want to have it any other way.
